CNC WATER JET
What is abrasive waterjet cutting?
Abrasive waterjet cutting is a technological process that uses a jet of high-pressure water mixed with an abrasive to control the “abrasive” of the material. It is used to cut almost all materials up to a thickness of approximately 300 mm. The principle of this technology is that there is no thermal influence on the material being cut, as in other similar cutting technologies (laser, plasma, oxyfuel). The waterjet can therefore only release existing stresses in the material due to, for example, temperature (plasma-burned blanks, sheet edges), rolling or hardening.
Principle of high-pressure cutting
A directed high-pressure water jet in the primary water nozzle (usually a water diamond nozzle) carries away abrasive grains in the mixing chamber of the cutting head. The subsequent passage of the water-abrasive mixture through the secondary abrasive nozzle creates a cutting tool. This jet can cut all common materials up to 250 mm thick.
Soft materials (foam, rubber, thin plastics, leather, carpets and automotive upholstery) can only be cut with clean water without abrasives using a clean water cutting head.
Technology usage
Our waterjet cutting workstation consists of a high-pressure pump and a CNC table. The advantage of this workstation is high accuracy (repeatable positioning accuracy of the cutting table is +- 0.01 mm) and quality (often no subsequent machining) of the semi-finished product. Since it is a computer-controlled process, the finished semi-finished product can be of a general nature. The disadvantage is that they are not mobile. The advantages of this type of workstation (accuracy and quality of cutting) are also used by construction companies when creating images and company logos on paving stones (a water jet is practically irreplaceable for this work). They are also used in the production of staircases, beams, covers…
